Robert Reich divided the U.S. workforce into three components. Symbolic analysts makeup 25% of the total workforce with routine producers and providers of in-person services as the other two components. Symbolic analysts are people whose jobs pivot on thought and communication. Examples include engineers, stock market analysts, computer programmers, and entertainers. Symbolic analysts are creative and innovative and therefore are at the core of the New Economy.
