Mental Models

These are the core concepts of an organization or individual. They are the beliefs and assumptions, the cause-and-effect relationships, the guidelines for interpreting language, and the stories that make an extended impression on our view of the world. The concept of Creative Destruction proves that organizations and individuals tend to use their Mental Models beyond their useful life span. Thus, Mental Models begin to prevent, instead of keep, organizations and individuals in alignment with today and tomorrow’s reality. The way to avoid this trap is to remain aware that Mental Models are simplifications of a complex reality. Organizations and individuals must engage in a continuous process of strategic thinking if they seek to create and maintain relevant Mental Models.
