Seminar at Oxford University
“The European Union has long recognized that the knowledge-based economy requires significant changes in the labour force of the future, and deep transformations are needed in current educational practices. Moreover the development of students’ e-skills among other competencies has become a particular challenge. Nevertheless after ten years of effort to improve educational achievements by infusing massive amounts of capital into information and communication technologies (ICT), current research constantly demonstrates that access to and the use of ICT are not guarantees for increased achievement by students“.
- Does this mean that public policies in education have failed, especially in regard to technology?
- Are the future generations of professionals prepared for modern labour markets?
- How do we strengthen literacy for the 21st century?
The first speaker will be John W. Moravec, Ph.D., director of the Leapfrog Institutes at the University of Minnesota, who will speak about education and innovation in the context of “society 3.0” (www.educationfutures.com). The second speaker will be Cristóbal Cobo Romaní, Ph.D., visiting fellow (ESRC & SSRC) at the SKOPE Centre, University of Oxford, who will present the findings of his research: How to develop e-skills in the future labour force? (ergonomic.wordpress.com).
