The methodological criteria considered for the Case Study selection is described below:

1.- Identify the ranking of countries by the Knowledge Economy Index (KEI) [World Bank.] [More information in the World Bank website or the following brochure]. See Table N.1

2.- Selection of those countries which constituted the Western European sub-region. [See UCLA]. See Table N.2:

3.-Select the Western European countries with higher and lower position described in the Knowledge Economy index. Also UK (as a local reference) was added as too. See Table N.3:
